Introducing Starry, PepsiCo's Answer To Gen-Z

Starry competes with Sprite from Coca-Cola, and comes in regular and zero sugar varieties. According to Starry's promotional materials, the brand is a "purpose-driven brand built for Generation Z" and offers a "crisp, refreshing formula with a bite" to grow the category. According to Starry's packaging, the soda is a "fun escape" that is also environmentally friendly.

Over the years, PepsiCo has launched a variety of beverages that have attempted to compete with Sprite, such as Slice and Storm.

Sierra Mist, a lemon-lime soda launched in 2000, has suffered dwindling sales over the last decade and may be discontinued. PepsiCo has attempted to revamp the soda in the past, adding stevia to its formula in 2015. It also renamed the drink Mist Twist in that year, before reverting to Sierra Mist in 2018.

Sierra Mist had a 0.1% dollar share of carbonated soft drinks as of last October, while Sprite had 6.9%, according to Beverage Digest. PepsiCo could gain market share by launching a lemon-lime soda product with its own brand aimed at Gen Z consumers.
