Alaskan Night Sky Shows An Odd Spiral Amid Northern Lights

A light baby blue spiral resembling a galaxy appeared amid the aurora for a brief period amid the green bands of light dancing in Alaskan skies.

On Saturday morning, there was nothing alien about the cause, nor did a portal to the far reaches of the universe appear. SpaceX's rocket had launched from California about three hours before the spiral appeared, releasing excess fuel.

As part of its payload, the rocket launched Friday night from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It was a polar launch, so it was visible over a large area of Alaska. It was timed correctly for visibility over Alaska during the fuel dump. The spiral thing is really cool," he said. Despite looking like a galaxy over Alaska, he assures it wasn't one. He said, "I can tell you it's not a galaxy.". The light is being reflected by water vapor.
